Dosing cookie crumble into a cup lid is commonly used in dual-compartment snack cups (for yogurt, ice cream, desserts, or cereal cups) where the topping is stored separately in the lid to keep it dry and crunchy until consumption. The process can be done manually for small production or automatically for high-speed packaging lines.


For automatic production, the most common method uses a volumetric cup filler designed for small solid particles. First, empty lids are automatically fed from a lid magazine onto a conveyor or indexing plate. The cookie crumble is then delivered from a hopper to the dosing unit, where a volumetric cup filler measures a preset quantity and dispenses it into the lid compartment. For higher accuracy or irregular crumble shapes, a small multi-head weigher can weigh each portion before dropping it into the lid. After dosing, the lid moves to a sealing station where a foil or film is heat-sealed to close the topping compartment, keeping the crumble fresh and protected from moisture. The sealed lid is then transferred to a yogurt or dessert cup filling line, where it is snapped onto the filled cup to create a complete snack pack.


To achieve consistent dosing, manufacturers usually control crumb particle size, hopper vibration, and dosing speed to prevent bridging or uneven fills. Anti-dust covers, gentle conveyors, and adjustable dosing volumes help maintain product quality and reduce waste. This packaging method is widely used for yogurt with cookie toppings, cereal snack cups, ice cream mix-ins, and dessert kits, allowing consumers to mix the topping with the base product just before eating.
